Dried Longan (Gui Yuan) — Sweet Fruit for Teas & Soups

Dried longan (gui yuan) is the dried fruit of the longan tree. It has a sweet, honey-like flavor and a chewy texture. In Chinese home cooking, it is used in teas, sweet soups, and savory broths.

How to use: Add 8–10 pieces to a pot of tea or soup. Simmer for 15–20 minutes. It pairs well with jujube dates, goji berries, and ginger.

About Dried Longan ▾

In Chinese food culture, longan is often associated with warmth and comfort. It is a common ingredient in sweet soups (tong sui) and teas, especially in cooler weather.

It is naturally sweet. That is why it is used in small amounts — a few pieces are enough to add depth and sweetness to a pot of tea or soup.

Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant, especially in early pregnancy.

If you have diabetes, longan is high in natural sugar. Use it in moderation.
